Basic Guide to Finding Hidden Valves and Piping
If you are a homeowner then you need to know the details of your home like the back of your hand. Finding hidden water as well as gas piping valves is something that you need to look into and know where they are especially if you have to deal with things like emergencies. There are various ways that you can be able to do that and some of the ways that you can be able to ensure that you do that are briefly highlighted below.
In order to locate the gas shutoff valve then you need to find out if you have natural gas since the shutoff valve will be located outside the home just before the gas meter. Such nubs are usually rectangular in shape and usually use a wrench and gas companies do not recommend touching them. There is however a side valve that is usually located where the gas pipe first enters or much further down the line.
If you have a gas pipe then the valve will most likely be located in the utility room and will be made from flexible copper. Having such a piping usually means that you have a high-pressure gas system for your home. The shutoff valves of such systems are usually located near the water heater or the furnace.
For water meters, you are likely to get that you have two shutoff valves one before and the other after the meter. In environments where it is really cold you are most likely to get the shut off points located in the house to prevent freezing. There is a high chance that if you live in milder climates, then the water shutoff valve will be located in an underground box with a lid or next to an exterior wall.
Take time to look at property reports if you are finding it hard to locate water shut off valve since they are usually indicated in property reports given in the last phase of the property purchase. When you look at the report, you are sure that you will be able to find out where the valve is located. Pictures of the valves will also be drawn so that you are able to know what they look like.
With most automatic sprinklers located underground, there is a very high chance that they may be a little bit harder to find. By using a metal detector, you are sure that you will be able to find such valves since they are usually made up of metals. If you use a plan to find the valves then you are sure that you are able to easily know where to start.
